This is where our designer, James, comes in. We have worked with him over many years. He studied at Writtle College, completing a National Diploma in Amenity Horticulture and the College Diploma in Garden Design, achieving a 2.1 in July 2011. James is also based in Danbury, near Chelmsford, and designs beautiful, bespoke gardens.
He is passionate about horticulture and has run a successful garden maintenance business for many years. This has enabled him to build experience and strong relationships with many existing clients which, in turn, has helped him approach his real passion, garden design, in a very professional way.
His role is to enable you to visualise how your garden could look and where to put those special features and also use planting to its best effect. With your help he will establish your requirements, absorb them, discuss them with you and advise on the best approach. He can provide you with a choice of initial ideas and sketches, one of which will be developed into a full design, bringing the garden to life.
This enables him to turn your dream garden into a reality that suits your lifestyle and also lives up to your expectations. Once the layout of the garden is decided upon he uses features such as pergolas, trellis or sculptures to add structural interest. Finally, imaginative planting is used to soften the look and tie the garden together.
What do you do when you want to redesign your garden but don’t know where to start? You have an idea of what you would like but find it hard to get it down on paper and see a way to make your dream a reality. If so maybe our garden designer James can help
Whether you need a full design, a simple planting plan or just a chat and some pointers in the right direction there will be something James can offer you. Following an initial meeting, James will provide a quote up front that details the likely costs involved. This can vary depending on the amount of work involved and can be anything from £150 for a site meeting - followed by the creation of a simple sketch - to around £600 or more for a choice of three initial design ideas, with the one you like being taken through to a full, scaled design with planting plan.
When you are comfortable with the quote and the work involved, the process can begin. We can arrange for our landscapers to provide a quote for the work when you have agreed the final design if required. We can also provide any on going adhoc or regular maintenance in future once the work has been completed.
If you would like to have an initial chat with James about your requirements, with no obligation, please contact us now and he will be in touch very soon.
For a small patio a simple sketch will probably do but if considering a larger area, perhaps incorporating hard and soft landscaping - plants and shrubs - then it is often worth enlisting some professional help. This will involve some cost up front but when you could be spending anything from £10,000 upwards on a medium to large garden, getting the look and feel right up front can be very worthwhile and save money in the long term.
The benefit of a full design is that all involved in completing the project know exactly what you are trying to achieve and a more accurate estimate can be provided up front. Without a plan drawn up for your garden it can end up disjointed and badly laid out, leaving you disappointed with the end result.
